The Island of Boracay was closed to the public in April 26, 2018 for rehabilitation, and it was opened in October 26, 2018. We went back to the island last October 27 to check what were the improvements. Aside from the rehabilitation of the island, there were also changes on how to go in the island.

Boracay Island’s Beach
The Island is known for its fine white sand.
After the rehabilitation, it was noticeable that the beach was cleaned.
Before the rehabilitation, even though the beach was clean, there were still trash in some parts of the beach. But now, I did not saw any trash 🙂
We also noticed that the sun bathing chairs, tables, and small businesses were removed from the beach. This was good because people can enjoy the beach more!
Sand Castles were still built in the island, but it was limited.
I enjoyed the beach too much, I had to take swimsuit pictures 😆
Even though I’m chubby I took the courage to wear a swimsuit. Thank you to Joy Cosine of Joystreet Swimweat for my swimsuit. It made me feel confident!
You can order swimsuits from her Facebook account https://www.facebook.com/joystreetswimwear/
Of course swimming is a must when visiting Boracay!
Another issue of the island was the polluted water which was because of some establishments who throws their waste in the ocean. But after the rehabilitation, the establishments were closed and were asked to follow the proper waste disposal.
So Busy and I swam and tested the water 🙂
As shown in the pictures below, the water was clear and blue in color.
There were no moss or any trash.
The color of the water were different in various location.
(Mama Mary Statue and the Cliff at the end of the station)
One of the landmarks in Boracay is the Mama Mary Statue in Station 1
The area was still the same, before and after the rehabilitation, the area was clean.
Stopping by the statue and praying is a must in Boracay!
After praying, we went to the edge of Station 1, wherein the cliff can be found.
Walking on the island can be a bit hot, so I wore my cool OOTD (outfit of the day) from Urban Aura PH. You can also grab your daily OOTDs from their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/urbanauraph/
It was quiet at the end of station 1.
There were still few visitors when we visited Boracay. We even thought that we had the end of Station 1 by ourselves.
The water in this area was still crystal clear!
Just be careful if you wish to swim, there were sharp rocks in the area.
The Famous Boracay Sunset
Boracay was also famous for its gorgeous sunset.
The sunset was still beautiful. 😍
Souvenir Shops and Seafood Paluto
Before the island was closed for rehabilitation, souvenir shops were everywhere. When the island opened, the souvenir shops were now built properly on various locations.
Seafood Paluto was also available in several locations in the island before and after Boracay’s rehabilitation. Safood Paluto is the term used by people wherein people choose and buy the seafood from the market and the restaurant will cook it.
Here were some of the seafood that we saw:
This Lobster was huge! According to the store, the giant Lobster may cost around Php 10,000!
Areas Still Under Construction
Within the 6-month rehabilitation of the island, there were various ares which undergo construction.
The roads were still under construction during our visit. Hopefully the construction will be finished soon.
Dust were all around, and when it rained the dust turned into mud.
D’ Mall was the famous mall in Boracay, but during our visit there were only few stalls open, some parts of the mall were still under construction.
Other Hotels and Establishments
Most of the hotels and stores along the beach were still under construction.
Our Hotel – Nigi Nigi
There were a lot of hotel and resorts in the island which is still under construction. Luckily we found Nigi Nigi Nu Noos ‘e’ Nu Nu Noos Beach Resort. The resort is just along the beach and is located in Station 2.
We’ll be posting our review soon 🙂
Happy and Busy’s Smileys
In our opinion, the rehabilitation of Boracay Island was a great ambition by the government. The government had good intentions and we saw it from the development. However, 6 months is not enough to finish the construction. We hope the construction will finish soon.
Another concern is the night life in the island. Boracay is known for parties and great night life, we hope the party scene will be back soon. But party goers should be responsible!
Water activities were also not yet available during our visit, but according to the authorities, water activities will begin on November 3.
We hope that after this rehabilitation, the cleanliness of the island and the discipline of the visitors will be maintained.
