Dentist Appointment During COVID 19
I recently went on a dentist appointment during the COVID 19 pandemic. This year (2020), the world was put to a halt due to the COVID 19 virus pandemic. The Philippines is not spared from this, thus when the quarantine guidelines were loosened up, I scheduled an appointment with my dentist.
At first, they do not want to accept my appointment because I just need a pasta, which is not an emergency. But for me, it is an emergency because my tooth is aching significantly. After I kept on messaging them for a few weeks, they gave in and set up my appointment.
The dental clinic is located in the mall, I was instructed by the clinic to show my dentist appointment slip, but I didn’t need it because I have a pass. When I arrived in the dental clinic, they did their standard protocol.
I stepped on the disinfecting mat.
When I opened the door to go in, I was instructed to step on the disinfecting mat, and stop there.
Disinfectant was sprayed to me.
While on the mat, I was instructed to close my eyes because they will spray a disinfectant. So, I did what I was told to do.
My temperature was checked.
Just like entering other establishments, my temperature was also checked.
A Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) was provided for me to wear.
PPEs were provided to all of us (patients) for our protection and the dentists were also wearing PPEs.
Finally, the dentist checked my teeth and placed pasta on my tooth.
The clinic just opened up so they just made an alternative cover or protection. They used a ring light, placed plastic in the middle, and placed paper towels around it.
The dentist actually informed me that she is suggesting that I get root canal because the damage is kinda deep. I opted for the pasta because I thought that will help.
I went to the counter and paid for the services.
When I saw the bill, I was kinda shocked that the COVID Protocol Fee costs Php 1,500 (US$ 30), it’s more expensive than the actual treatment. 😆 The fee includes the PPE that I used, plus the other protocols like disinfectant spray, etc.
The pasta on my tooth did not work, I was sooooo much in pain. So I asked for another appointment. This time I’ll have a root canal. I’m kinda sad because root canal is expensive. 😆
All of the procedures were the same.
This time, they have a nicer shield. It is made out of acrylic.
Well… I am sharing my dentist appointment during COVID 19 pandemic, so I might as well show you the pictures of my root canal. 🙂
Here is one of the needles which were used to remove the dental pulp. (Dental pulp is like the bone marrow in the teeth)
I undergo the X-ray too with the needle so the dentist can see if she has clearly reached the end of the tooth. As you can see in the picture below, the needle is at the end of the roots already. By the way, the tooth which undergo root canal is just beside a fake tooth, the screw is also shown in the X-ray film.
Time to pay!
I know that the root canal procedure costs a lot than the pasta, and I still have to pay for the COVID Protocol Fee. I was glad that they just charged Php 500 for my second visit. According to the staff, it just costs Php 500 on the next visit of the patients.
During this COVID 19 pandemic, it is kinda hard to set a dentist appointment. Of course the dentists have to protect themselves too so they keep the foot traffic to the minimum. It is also a bit expensive to have a dentist appointment, because there is the COVID Protocol Fee which is added to the patient’s bill. I really have to keep my teeth healthy so I can avoid these circumstance again.
