Checking In Grandis Hotels and Resorts, Kota Kinabalu
Our flight arrived at 2:30 AM at Kota Kinabalu International Airport via Cebu Pacific. So, we were very tired since we both came from our day jobs and went straight to the airport. We went straight to Grandis Hotels and Resorts in Kota Kinabalu so we can rest.
We were picked up from the airport to the hotel by Across Borneo. but if you have your own car, you can park it beside the hotel.
The Rooms of Grandis Hotels and Resorts
We tried two of their rooms during our stay even though initially we were supposed to stay in one room only. We are supposed to check in at 2 PM on the day of our arrival because we thought our energy can continue until the end of the day without rest, and go on tour straight from the airport. But we were wrong haha, so, we booked a room when we arrived at the hotel so we can rest until our tour start in the morning.
We’ll show the room that we instantly booked, then the main room that we booked.
Deluxe Family Room – Grandis Hotels and Resorts
The cheapest rooms are all booked, so we got the Deluxe Family Room. This costs RM 1,100 per night (around Php 12,000), but I was just charged Php 4,267 (around RM 300). The receptionist said we will still pay the full price even though we will be staying for a few hours only, so I am not really sure why we got a very low price for this. Maybe they gave us a discount. 🙂
Bedroom, Living Area, and Mini Bar
There are three beds, two single beds, and one queen-sized bed, which can fit four people.
There is also a working or study desk, perfect for business trips or even students who want to study. You can also notice that you do not have to use an adaptor because the electrical sockets of the hotel have every shape that any country has.
There is also a sofa chair, or shall we say a living area.
There is also a mini bar area, wherein there is a fridge and a coffee and tea-making area.
Comfort Room
Here is what the comfort room looks like, it has a separate shower area, sink, and bathtub. The toilet bowl is also located on the left side, and it has a bidet.
The bathtub area looks like a sauna area.
We didn’t explore much of the room since we are very tired and we wanted to rest immediately. But here is a summary of the features of the room:
- Air-conditioned
- Bath
- Cable/Satellite TV
- Cots Available

Deluxe Studio Sea View – Grandis Hotels and Resorts
This is one of the best rooms in the hotel and resort, so Busy and I were very pleased when we checked in here. We have a welcome letter that is beside this dried fish with peanuts for us to try.
Bedroom
First, there is a Queen-sized bed for us in the middle of the room. The bed is soft and comfortable, but our favorite part of the bed is the pillows, they are super fluffy. Beside the bed, there are side desks, a telephone, pencil and paper, tissue papers, sanitizer, face masks, electrical sockets, and light switches.
Living Area
On one side of the room, the living area is located. It has a television, a set of fruits, a small round table, a leather sofa, and a dining set. This is also the portion wherein we saw our welcome letter. The living area is also near the window so we get to see the other side of the room. I like this area because I can lie down on the leather sofa even though my hair is wet.
Here are the fruits that we had during our stay. There is an Orange, Apples, Grapes, and a Star Apple which are all placed on a Banana leaf.
Work/Study Area
This is the best area for those who are on a business trip or even those who want to finish some work or study while staying here. There is also a menu so you can order food and have it delivered to your room.
Just like Busy when he needed to finish some work, while I lie on the bed looking at the nice view of Gaya Island from the room hahaha.
Cabinets and Luggage Area
This is the portion that we saw when we came into the room, the cabinets, and the luggage area. There is a luggage table so we can place our luggage here. But it’s just me who used this one ’cause I have a lot of things hahaha sorry Busy.
There is an open cabinet area where we placed our shoes and a closed cabinet where we placed some of our things. The cabinet doors are made out of long mirrors which is nice because we can see what we look like before we go out of the room. Plus, there are bedroom slippers available too.
Inside the cabinet, there are things that we needed like the bath robes, hangers, flashlight, iron and ironing board, a safety vault, and a Sarong. Plus, there is a hairdryer here too that is plugged in already so I just turned it on and use it while in front of the mirror.
It’s so nice that they are very into Malaysian culture that they even added a Sarong that we can use during our stay. Busy even tried to wear this one, he finds it comfortable.
Mini Bar
The mini bar is located in front of the cabinets. It has an electric kettle, an ice bucket, two bottled water, snacks, and a mini refrigerator.
The snacks in this area are salted peanuts, Potato Chips, and two bottled water which is refilled daily.
The mini fridge contains three drinks, Coca-Cola, 100 Plus, and Sprite. All of the drinks and snacks here are included in the room rate. We did not pay any additional fees for consuming these.
In the sliding cabinet of the mini bar, two glasses, two mugs, coffee, tea, and a sewing kit are inside. We did not consume these because they are also available in the breakfast buffet, so we just took them home.
The View
Our room has the best view in the hotel too, this is one of the reasons why you have to pay a little extra and upgrade your room.
We saw the South China Sea, Gaya Island, and the famous sunset in Kota Kinabalu right from our bedroom.
Comfort Room
Our room has a huge comfort room and a lot of toiletries. First, this is the sink which has hot and cold water too. Two glasses, a big mirror, one medium towel, and two small towels are also placed here. On the side, the toilet bowl with a bidet, trash can, and toiletries are located. I love their toiletries, there is a lot!
To summarize here is every toiletry that they provided:
- Shampoo
- Bath Gel
- Soap
- Lotion
- Toothbrush
- Shower cap
- Comb
- Razor
- Cotton buds
- Tissue papers
- Sanitary Bag
On the other side, the bathtub, and shower are located. Both have a hot or cold option. Bath towels and a rug are also provided in this part. A clothesline, and a lot of hooks to place our wet clothes are also here.
We love the bathtub area because it has a nice view too! We get to relax in the tub while looking at the view.
To summarize, here is the list of the features of the room:
- Air-conditioned
- Shower area

Features and Amenities of Grandis Hotels and Resorts
We love the hotel because there are a lot of features and amenities.
Swimming Pool
There is a swimming pool on the rooftop which gives a great view of the nearby buildings, and the South China Sea.
Gym
If you can’t miss a day at the gym, do not worry because a gym is also available here. It has a complete set up, from muscle building to cardio machines/facilities.
Sky Blu Bar
This is one of the top restaurants and bars in Kota Kinabalu. So, you do not have to go far and have a good night out. You can also catch the sunset here.
Piano Lounge
There is a piano lounge that guests or visitors can enjoy while having a pastry, coffee, or tea.
Member’s Lounge
On the other hand, if you are a member, you can stay and enjoy the exclusive member’s lounge.
Daily News
The hotel provides a daily newspaper for all of the guests, so everybody knows what is going on. We like that they support the local newspaper, which can help the newspaper industry in Kota Kinabalu.
Buffet Breakfast
All of the guests get to enjoy the buffet breakfast. Whooooh! We enjoyed this three times!
We tried all of the dishes every day, I enjoyed the noodles, and Busy enjoyed the viands.
There are various buffet stations, like the noodle, bread, main viand, drinks, hot drinks (coffee, tea, and soya bean), soup, salad, sauces, and Egg.
This is the buffet dining area, which turns into a dining area for lunch and dinner service too. It has a nice view of the sea and the nearby buildings.
Direct Suriah Sabah Mall Access
The hotel is beside Suriah Sabah Mall, and it has direct access to it. Yes, there is a door from the hotel going to the mall.
We love this feature because we get to go around the mall and buy things that we forgot to bring. Plus the mall is big, has a cinema, and nice brands too.
Near Tourist Spots
The hotel is near almost all tourist spots in the city. Some are within walking distance from the hotel, and some are reachable by car for just a few minutes. Just like Kota Kinabalu Waterfront wherein people go here to enjoy the sunset and party at night.
And some of the mosques in the city like Masjid Negeri Sabah or the Sabah State Mosque.
Further Expansion
We immediately know that the hotel will be the best in Kota Kinabalu in the future because they are still expanding. Beside the hotel, there is a construction of their extension. When this is finished, it will have the best view of the South China Sea and Gaya Island.
